What's A Union?
A Union is an organization of workers joined together for a common purpose, for mutual aid and protection,
to engage in concerted activity and collective bargaining, to elevate their conditions of life
and labor; an organization by which ordinary people do extraordinary things.
What's The UBC?
UBC Is the very short way of saying The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.
A Union composed of Carpenters, Millwrights, Piledrivers and other organized groups involved in
working with aspects of carpentry. The UBCJA is the national organization, they are headquartered
in Washington D. C. with an International Training Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Be sure and ask
to view the VCR tape on the Training Center if you decide to visit us.

Peter J. McGuire “No. 1 carpenter unionist in 1881, and the First Secretary-Treasurer
of the American Federation of Labor in 1886.” Throughout his career, McGuire sought to promote the
interests of carpenters. In 1881, he formed the national carpenters’ federation,
The Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners. As a union activist and editor of The Carpenter,
he demanded higher wages for all in his trade. In 1886, McGuire became the first Secretary

What's the Southeastern Carpenters Regional Council?
Most often referred to as the SECRC Our council is headquartered in Augusta GA and covers a three state area;
Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.Visit the SECRC web page

What's the Southeastern Carpenters Training Trust?
The SECTT, located in Calhoun , Georgia is the center of operations for the apprenticeship program
and up-grade-training. All training programs in our Council area are directed and co-ordinated
from this office. To learn more about the SECTT and

About Local Union # 144
Located in Macon, Georgia Carpenters/Millwrights Local No 144 was chartered on December 1, 1887
by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America. For over one hundred and eighteen years
the members have built, renovated, and maintained many businesses and plants in our territory of 40
counties that include Macon, Warner Robins, Milledgeville and Albany.
The Brotherhood owns the building at 4338 Interstate Drive in Macon. It is a large facility that
contains office space and a training facility for all of our members. We have
apprenticeship classes on a quarterly basis, welding Classes on select Tuesday evenings and
upgrade training for all members on scheduled weekends.
Under a collective bargaining agreement with signatory contractors, working members have
access to health care and annuity funds. Local 144 is expanding it's membership. For more
